Yesterday our students dressed up as their favorite celebrities or characters. We sure have a lot of superstars at Gary ISD! Congratulations to the Red Ribbon All Star winners!
Gary High School Spanish 2 classes recently visited the Michelson Museum of Art in Marshall to observe a traditional "ofrenda" for the Day of the Dead. They learned more about the traditions associated with the Hispanic holiday "Día de los Muertos" and the meaning behind each item placed on the altar to celebrate the dead. While visiting the museum, the students were also able to look at the different art collections and complete an art work of their own.
Just a reminder that our Class of 2027 is doing a Haunted Trail this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 7PM until the ghosts get tired! We hope everyone can come check it out!

Last Tuesday, Eleven Gary FFA Members traveled to the Longview Invitational Leadership Development Contest with FFA Advisor Jessica Shadix to compete against teams from across the State of Texas.
What are these events?
Leadership Development Events focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA Organization.
Teams Competing include:
Senior Creed Speaking; Senior Creed Speaking
Students must present the FFA Creed from memory and answer questions about its meaning and purpose. The event boosts self-confidence and develops their ability to communicate in a powerful, professional manner.
Radio Broadcasting; Blair Cope, Braley Weems and Emorie Comer
A team of 3 members presents an informative radio program covering one or more agricultural subjects that is current in nature and local in content. The contest assumes that the chapter has a regularly scheduled non-commercial radio program once each month over a local station.
Agricultural Advocacy; Caitlynn Ayers, Lane Cartwright, Emma Newman and Braley Weems
This contest is designed to inform the general public and consumers about the importance and value of the agriculture industry and how agriculture impacts human lives.
Greenhand Skills; Hunter Brown, Rhett Phillips, Luke Kelley, Tucker Grubbs and Omar Castillo
A team of 3-5 members performs an actual demonstration of an agricultural skill including anything in the Agricultural Science and Technology curriculum using effective public speaking and communication methods.
These students will have one more practice contest to prepare for their District Contest against 23 other schools held on November 8th! At District they must be the top 3 of the 23 schools in their respective division to advance to area competition! Please help us wish these students good luck!
