This contest is made up of judging classes in species of: beef cattle, swine, sheep and goats, keep/cull classes, a 256 question test and several other portions. It is NOT easy and takes YEARS to learn and perfect.
These students did outstanding for their first Area Contest!! Please congratulate Lane Cartwright, Emma Newman and Caitlynn Ayers for their hard work!

On Saturday, April 1st, the Gary OAP advanced to the regional level of contest!
It was not without struggle. Hailey Essery was very sick and unable to complete, so June LaGrone moved into her spot and Beka Smith moved into June's spot - this move happened at 4pm, and they performed at 10am the next day. Crazy! It was nerve racking to say the least! June and Beka learned all the lines and movements in a parking lot, and then put on costumes for the first time an hour before they had to perform!
Still, June and Beka did amazing filling the gap Hailey left, so Gary OAP moves on again! We placed second place with a 1,2,3 from the judges.
James Burgess earned a tech award for lights direction!
Katie Thomas and Jesse Dodge earned honorable mention all-star cast!
Miller Powell was named to the all-star cast!
For the third time in a row, Brady Balfanz earned the top performer award!
We are extremely proud of our theatre students, and can't wait for the regional contest at Panola College on April 20th!
Due to the upcoming weather, today's baseball game has been rescheduled for 12PM tomorrow! We hope everyone can come cheer on our team!

On Friday, 3/24 the Gary FFA and Gary 4-H Forestry teams traveled to Gilmer to compete in their first contest of the year! Forestry is a “Career Development Event”- these events give students life skills that can be used for years to come! They learn how to measure timber, pace off distances and learn how to identify the hardwood trees and pine trees in East Texas!
This was an “invitational” contest, much like a scrimmage for a sports team. This contest was about learning, tweaking what needs to be learned and getting experience for the “real deal” at District that will happen on 4/12.
Mr. Harvey and Mrs. Shadix are proud of these student’s efforts and hard work!! Some are as young as the 4th grade, competitions against high school students!!
