Gary FFA has had a busy Spring Break! First, our Nursery Landscape and Floriculture teams traveled to the Area 6 FFA Competition on Tuesday, 4/16 where over 65 schools competed for a spot to advance to the respective state competitions.
These teams are trained by Jessica Shadix
Placings:
🪴Nursery Landscape- 14th place team
Hannah Yarborough
Kinsley Myron
Brodey Seals
Brannan Stevens
🌷Floriculture- 24th place team
Katelyn Chambers
Makynze Adams
McKenzie Coleman
Emma Holland
While these placings might not seem exciting to some, THEY ARE! The two teams are made up of all freshmen except 1 and these contests are brand new to Gary FFA and it takes a year or two to establish a strong foundation at the state qualifying level. IT WILL HAPPEN!!
Congrats to these teams! In celebration, ice cream before lunch was a must!

Along with being presented with her scholarship, Kaydence was asked to read the essay that she wrote about her most influential teacher, Ag Teacher Jessica Shadix at the banquet and Kaydence presented Ms. Shadix with a token of her appreciation for her influence.

GISD is closely monitoring the weather and still plans to start school at our normal schedule Thursday. We understand that some in the community live on roads that may not be safe to drive on at this time. Remember, do not drive through water over the road; turn around, don’t drown. If you cannot travel safely, all we ask is that you call us in the morning and let us know that your child will not be present. Thank you and stay safe!

Parents, STAAR testing resumes tomorrow on both campuses. A snack and a bottle of water will be provided to all students testing. High school students; pease bring your charged school-issued Chromebook and your charger! We understand that some roads may not be safe to travel, if your student cannot make it to school please let your front office know and your student can make up their test on Friday.

Due to the oncoming severe weather, school has been canceled for today. We hope that all of our families stay safe with all of this rain and will see everyone tomorrow. STAAR testing will resume on Thursday.

Due to inclement weather we will be releasing students at 1pm today. Buses will run during this time.

STAAR Testing begins tomorrow at Gary ISD! We ask that all students get a good night's rest and come in ready to do their best! For high school students; please make sure you bring your school-issued Chromebook fully charged, and bring your charger just in case, we will provide the snacks! Remember; no outside food can be brought to the campus on testing days!

High school students all gathered outside today to safely view the solar eclipse! Keep watch over this post as more pictures are gathered!

Elementary students from Pre-K all the way to 6th participated in safely viewing the spectacular solar eclipse! Even our maintenance staff joined in on the fun! Be sure to keep watch over this post as new photos are added!

We are a little late, but we want to say a huge thank you to our maintenance men, John Smith, JD Strawn, and Steve Molitor for all that they do!

A huge shout out to our paraprofessionals. Thank you all so much for going above and beyond each and every day.

We appreciate our librarian so much. Thank you, Tricia Cranford, for being an important part of Gary Elementary!

Oh we are so excited, Pre-K Roundup is almost here! Reserve your spot now for our roundup party on Friday, April 12th from 10am-2pm!

All four of Mrs. Ava's RLA classes did a March Madness bracket for their IXLs! They received points for each skill completed on their STAAR skill plan, and they were tallied up on Fridays. They all worked super hard but 5A came out on top by ONE point at the very last minute and won a pizza and movie party!

Congratulations to all of our February Students of the Month at Gary Elementary! Keep being great leaders!

Shout out to local businesses, we still are looking for companies in need of help this summer! Hoping to have the fair in mid-May if we can get enough businesses! Contact the high school today!
