Gary Elementary is excited to announce that they will be a Leader in Me School at the beginning of next school year. Leader in Me is a whole-school improvement process based on the idea that everyone can be a leader. This evidence-based approach empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. The focus is on developing the whole-child by teaching leadership to every student, creating a culture of student empowerment, and aligning systems to drive results in academics.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is one of the key frameworks of the Leader in Me process. Gary Elementary students will begin to learn and apply leadership skills embedded in the 7 Habits starting the 2021-2022 school year. Along with the change in language, the school has begun to shift to a heavier emphasis on student ownership and accountability with leadership roles throughout the school whenever possible.
