WHAT IS TITLE IX?

No person in the United States, on the basis of sex, shall be excluded from participation, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

Title IX of Education Amendments of 1972

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects students and employees from sex discrimination, gender-based harassment, sexual harassment (which includes sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking), gender-based bullying, and retaliation in educational programs and associated activities at institutions that receive Federal funding. Gary Independent School District is committed to providing an educational environment free from discrimination or victimization of any kind that may negatively impact any person’s education or career with GISD.

Any person may report sex-discrimination, gender-based harassment, sexual harassment, gender-based bullying, and/or retaliation by mail, telephone, or by electronic mail using the contact information listed for the District Title IX Coordinator or by any other means that result in the Title IX Coordinator receiving the person’s verbal or written report. Such a report may be made at any time (including non-business hours) by using the telephone number or electronic mail address, or by mail to the office address listed for the Title IX Coordinator.
